We are called to communicate the Gospel to all people...

The world audience demands spoken and written messages that are clear,
relevant and culturally focused. You can polish your writing style and enhance your verbal skills to meet this challenge.
So what is the SCF about exactly?  Communication is the short answer, and to say it is a school to learn public speaking and writing is only half the answer.

Good communication is the foundation of all good relationships.  We communicate to each other, ourselves and God.  And you would think with our lifetime of practice we would get pretty good at it!  Alas, bad communication still hinders our relationships and the commandment to communicate the Gospel to all people.

First and foremost the SCF is a school that invites God to continue to realign our identity with Him.  We look at our character; into the heart of our communication and at our family; the basis through which we learned to communicate.  It identifies internal communication processes' which are influenced by personal, family, and cultural filters.   It is about continuing to create a new foundation with God to base our relationships and communication on.

It aims to sharpen the student's ability to communication clearly through cross-cultural and interpersonal dynamics, as well as to understand the principles of preparing and delivering a message to a variety of audiences.  One focus throughout the school is writing a research project on an 'unreached people-group' or sub-culture.  Through providing instruction and discussion, practical assignments and video evaluation, students learn to discover their place and potential as effective influencers in the public forum.
This course is a principle stepping-stone for further University of the Nations coursework and is one of the core courses needed for a bachelors degree.  It is also an excellent stand-alone school as it equips you for all of life; whether in work, ministry or further study.

A Message from the school leader

Hi!

This is Helen, the leader of the upcoming SCF in Restenäs September 2010.

I am very excited to see what God wants to do with this school this year and I hope you want to be a part of this time. The first school in 2008 was excellent and it was a privilege to walk with the students through their revelations and growth.  And it was a lot of fun! Last year it was a school where we got to practice all that we were learning first hand as we all grew together.

This year there are a lot of exciting developments in Restenäs with a strong commitment to God and His desire to reach out to the whole world.  During the fall there are three other schools running which creates a great atmosphere as we learn side-by-side.  Plus this year I will have a co-leader, Marianne Bye, who is bring her own style, heart and passion to the school.

My experience in my own SCF was far far beyond my expectations.  What I thought would be a school just about writing and speaking skills turned out to be far deeper and life changing.  God challenged me through the speakers, staff, students and assignments to look into my motivations behind my communication.  My skills were developed and my confidence strengthened, but was also a time of healing and revelation in my life.

I did my SCF with no plan to do a U of N degree and found it valuable in the development in my ministry.  Others will do this school for their degree program with the UofN, and it is an essential school to build your degree on.  I have heard numerous testimonies of people who wished they has completed this school before the bulk of their degree courses….so do not leave it to be your last school!!

So, degree program or not, the School of Communication Foundations will equip you to effective communicate in the world today.

Hope to see you here!

Helen
